The university began with an emphasis on business studies ("Dhurakij" means "economy" while "pundit" means "expert"). Now the university offers many courses of study within faculties of Business Administration, Accountancy, Economics, Humanities, Communication Arts, Engineering, and Law.

The Faculty of Law was established in 1975. In 1988, it became the first private law school in Thailand authorized by the Thai government to grant the Masters of Law degree. The Faculty of Law has some 32 faculty members, 250 graduate

students, and 700 undergraduate students. Many faculty members have studied and worked abroad (for instance, in Australia, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States) and hold advanced degrees. The current Dean, Dr. Kanit Nanakorn, earned an LL.B. from Thammasat University in Thailand, and a Doktor der Rechte (Dr.Jur.) from the University of Bonn, Germany. The faculty counts among its number four former deans of prestigious Thai legal faculties including those from Chulalongkorn, Thammasat, Ramkamhaeng, and Assumption (ABAC) universities. Faculty members have considerable experience in private and public practice, in government work, and in the judiciary.

Faculty members actively participate in research and publications. The Faculty of Law publishes the Dhurakijpundit Law Journal, the DPU Law Bulletin and other publications. It holds annual programs including, "Legal Guidance for Foreigners" (an intensive seminar in English) and outreach programs to teach principles of law and good governance to lower school students, teachers, and rural politicians and leaders.

With the Faculty of Law's high reputation, students are drawn to it from throughout Thailand. They can study as undergraduates for the degree of Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) and as graduates for the degree of Master of Law (LL.M.). A wide variety of courses (almost all in Thai) are offered providing principles of law, theoretical underpinnings, and thesis preparation. Students can also get real life training in practicums. Apart from their legal study, law graduates are expected to uphold high ethical values so that they can act in a constructive way in building a better society. Graduates can use their knowledge to pursue careers as attorneys, academics, judges, prosecutors, government leaders, and businessmen. LL.M. graduates benefit from their advanced training since entry into the judiciary and public prosecutors office is made easier.
